DistributedCOM Event 10016

Today we found a lot of Error Events 10016 in our SQL Cluster environment with the following details:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{FDC3723D-1588-4BA3-92D4-42C430735D7D}
and APPID
{83B33982-693D-4824-B42E-7196AE61BB05}
to the user Domain01User05 SID (S-1-5-21-734021623-2993308277-2836678311-5043) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

After some researches we found out that the messages are based on missing privileges for the user in the MS SQL Server Integration Services. To solve such an issue you can do the following steps:

  1. Open the Component Services (Start -> Administrative Tools -> Component Services OR Start -> Run -> dcomcnfg
  2. Navigate to Component Services -> My Computer -> DCOM Config and change the view to detailed. Now you can see the Application Name and Application ID in right side
  3. Scroll down and find the application ID mentioned in event message {83B33982-693D-4824-B42E-7196AE61BB05} -> Right Click -> Properties and select the Security tab.
  4. Click Customize under “Launch & Activation Permission” -> click Edit -> Add in the account Domain01User05 and set local launch and local activation.

After those changes the messages shouldn’t appear any more…
